The prices of tomatoes in Himachal Pradesh’s Solan fell once again. A 25 kg crate of A grade was sold for Rs 1,875 on Thursday in Sabzi Mandi Solan. When tomato prices were skyrocketing, a 25 kg crate of A grade was priced at Rs 5,000. After this it became Rs 4,000, then Rs 3,000, then Rs 2,500 and now it has reached Rs 1,875. The prices of normal tomato ranged from Rs 625 to Rs 1,250 per crate on Thursday.
Despite falling tomato prices, traders are selling tomatoes at Rs 80 to 140 per kg in the market, citing getting expensive tomatoes from farmers in the mandi. In such a situation, businessmen are openly looting the general public.
The arrival of tomatoes from Bangalore in the vegetable markets of other states has started showing its impact on the red gold of the state. The prices are expected to fall further in the coming days.
After August 15, tomatoes from Nashik will also start arriving in the markets of other states. At the same time, due to the closure of the Kalka-Shimla National Highway for heavy vehicles, there is a drop of Rs 500 to Rs 600 on a crate of tomatoes.
Dr. Ravindra Sharma, Secretary, Mandi Committee Solan said that the prices of tomatoes have come down. Tomatoes have started arriving in the markets of other states from Bangalore and Nashik. Although the tomatoes of these states last only for some time, after which there is a possibility of getting good prices for the tomatoes of the state.
