Union Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia said that the fares have been reduced by up to 60 percent and there is a possibility of further reduction in fares on some routes.
New Delhi. Fares have been reduced on various air routes including Delhi-Mumbai. This information has been found in the analysis done on the basis of data collected by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) . In recent years there was a huge jump in airfares on some specific routes. This change came mainly after the suspension of Go First operations.
According to the data of DGCA’s traffic monitoring unit, out of 10 routes, the average airfare on the Delhi-Mumbai route has declined by 74 per cent on June 29 as compared to June 6. During this period, there has been a 70 percent drop in airfares on the Delhi-Pune route, 72 percent on the Delhi-Ahmedabad route and 36 percent on the Delhi-Srinagar route.
Fares increased on Delhi-Mumbai routes,
however, during this period, there was also an increase in fares on some routes. The average fare on Mumbai-Delhi and Pune-Delhi routes has increased by 23 per cent and 17 per cent respectively. Air fares on several routes were hiked earlier this month, following which Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia asked representatives of airlines to set up a system to ensure fair pricing.
Air tickets likely to fall further
Air fares in India are not regulated and largely depend on the demand-supply situation. On 12 June, Union Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia said that fares have been reduced by up to 60 percent and there is a possibility of further reduction in fares on some routes where fare hike was seen. At the same time, DGCA is also closely monitoring the situation.
Let us tell you that for some time, the citizens had expressed concern many times about the huge increase in the fares of the airlines. Taking cognizance of this matter, the government and the DGCA discussed with the airlines. Selected players have survived due to the grounding of some airline companies including Jet Airways in India. In these, some airline companies including Indigo, SpiceJet and Air India are providing services.
