Thousands of complaints received in 9 months.

A parliamentary panel had found in its report last year that charging a fee from passengers for selecting seats in an aircraft is ‘arbitrary and unfair’. After receiving thousands of complaints from fliers in the last 9 months, LocalCircles conducted a survey among fliers across the country and tried to know about their experiences. During this time it was learned whether more seats should be made available to the passengers without any extra charges?

The survey was conducted on passengers of 308 districts.

The survey was conducted on the basis of conversations with airline passengers located in 308 districts of the country. More than 34,000 people were interviewed in the survey, out of which 66% were men and 34% were women. 51% of people who traveled by flight in the last 12 months said that the airline was charging extra instead of allotting a seat.

During this, he was asked that when you booked a flight ticket in the last 12 months, did you get the option to reserve a seat without paying at the time of booking? On this, most of the people said that the option to reserve the seat was only on the basis of paying extra charge.

Based on the survey, 47% of the passengers believed that extra charge was paid for reserving a seat one or more times. 35% of the people involved in the survey agreed that they had to pay extra charge every time to reserve the seat. However, 50% said that they never paid extra for the seat and traveled on the allotted seat only.

During the survey, an attempt was also made to know from the passengers that for what percentage of seats there should be a rule to charge extra. On this people opined that the government should order the airlines not to charge for more than 20% of the seats. That is, no money should be taken for 80 percent seats.
