Air India-Vistara Tata Group-owned Air India has announced an interline agreement with Vistara on 3 May. The flight number of the operating airlines is used when selling interline tickets. This is a useful step for the convenience of the passengers.

Tata Group – owned Air India on Wednesday announced an interline agreement with Vistara . An interline arrangement is an agreement to issue and accept tickets for flights operated by a partner airline.

When selling tickets under such an agreement, the operating airlines’ own flight numbers are used. The partnership enables Air India passengers to travel seamlessly on Vistara’s route network and Vistara passengers to travel seamlessly on Air India’s extensive domestic and global network, the airline said in a statement.

Signing of Interline Agreement

Air India has more than 100 such agreements with partner airlines. Of these, close to 50 are through check-in agreements with global partner airlines such as Lufthansa, United Airlines, Air Canada and Singapore Airlines. The scope of the agreement between Air India and Vistara includes Inter Airline Through Check-in (IATCI). With this, passengers get a boarding pass for all travel areas on a single ticket at the first departure station itself and their luggage is also stored there.

Air India and Vistara operate out of the same terminal at most major airports in the country. Vistara is a joint venture between Tata Group and Singapore Airlines. Both carriers have also implemented the ‘Interline System on Irregular Operations’ (IROPs). It is an arrangement under which passengers will be adjusted on the first available flight of each other’s fleet in the event of a flight delay, cancellation or flight diversion.
