Earlier, during the hearing of the case on July 11, Chief Justice DY Chandrachud asked about the status of SEBI’s investigation. In response to which Solicitor General Tushar Mehta told that SEBI has time till August to complete the investigation.
During the hearing, Tushar Mehta told the court that we have received the report of the expert committee. In which some things have been said about SEBI. We have filed our reply on this. Then the Chief Justice asked the Solicitor General about the status of the investigation. On this Tushar Mehta told the court that he is present in the report. He asked to put it on record. He told that we have given our response on the report of the committee.
Petitioner’s lawyer Prashant Bhushan said that the reply was filed on Monday and was distributed among the media. But it was filed late so that the court could not get it. He told the court that the expert committee has said that after what SEBI has done, it is not going to reach any conclusion in the investigation. He accused SEBI of sabotaging the investigation.
Prashant Bhushan told the court that due to amendments in SEBI rules, the investigation is not going to reach any point, due to which it is difficult to expose such scams. On this, the CJI asked SEBI’s lawyer Tushar Mehta to see the background of the amendment and to tell why this amendment was passed.
Another petitioner Advocate ML Sharma said in the court that it is very important to find out who sold Adani’s stocks in the market. After which the Chief Justice said that the next hearing of the case would be on August 14.
