Stock Market Closing: Market slips due to profit booking in IT and FMCG stocks, Indian stock exchanges closed with a fall

Stock Market Closing On 17 August 2023: In the last two trading sessions, the Indian stock market showed amazing recovery from the lower level but this could not happen on Thursday. Selling was seen in the market due to profit booking in IT, FMCG and energy stocks. At the end of today’s trading, the BSE Sensex fell by 388 points to 65,151 and the Nifty of the National Stock Exchange closed by 100 points at 19,365 points.

Condition of the sector

In today’s business, stocks of FMCG, Banking, IT, Energy, Pharma, Infra, Healthcare, Oil and Gas sectors closed down. There has also been a decline in the auto sector. Only the stocks of the consumer durables sector gained momentum. Mid cap and small cap stocks continue to gain momentum. Out of 30 Sensex stocks, only 8 closed with gains while 22 declined. Whereas, out of 50 stocks of Nifty, 17 stocks closed up and 33 closed down.

Volatile stock

In today’s trade, Titan Company closed with 2.12 per cent, SBI 1.19 per cent, Bajaj Finserv 0.52 per cent, Axis Bank 0.35 per cent, Tata Steel 0.13 per cent, Sun Pharma 0.12 per cent, Tech Mahindra 0.05 per cent. While ITC closed down by 2.04 per cent, Power Grid by 1.67 per cent, Reliance by 1.44 per cent, Larsen by 1.40 per cent, Nestle by 1.22 per cent, Kotak Mahindra Bank by 1.15 per cent.

Loss to investors

In today’s trade, there has been a dent in the wealth of the investors of the market. The market cap of companies listed on BSE came down to Rs 303.90 lakh crore from Rs 304.36 lakh crore in the previous session. That is, investors have suffered a loss of Rs 46,000 crore in today’s trade.
