Stock Market Closing: Indian stock market closed in green due to rise in banking-auto stocks

Share Market Update: The market closed on a high note but profit booking was seen in mid-cap and small-cap stocks.

Stock Market Closing On 12 May 2023: The last trading day of the week, the Indian stock market has closed with a boom. Especially the banking and auto sector shares have seen tremendous growth. At the end of today’s trading, the BSE Sensex rose by 123 points to 62,027 and the National Stock Exchange’s Nifty closed at 18,314 points with a gain of 18 points. Sensex has again managed to cross 62,000.

Condition of the sector

In today’s trading session, banking, auto, FMCG and consumer durables sector stocks gained while IT, pharma, metals, energy, infra, media sector stocks saw profit booking. Mid-cap and small-cap stocks also disappointed today and both the indexes closed down. Of the 30 Sensex stocks, 19 closed with gains and 11 with losses. Whereas, out of 50 stocks of Nifty, 23 stocks closed up and 27 closed down. Of the 12 Nifty Bank stocks, 10 closed higher and two closed down.

Bullish stocks

In today’s session, Mahindra & Mahindra closed with gains of 1.91 per cent, IndusInd Bank 1.81 per cent, Axis Bank 1.69 per cent, HDFC Bank 0.84 per cent, SBI 0.82 per cent, Bajaj Finance 0.79 per cent and Tata Motors 0.78 per cent. Power Grid closed down by 2.78 per cent, NTPC by 2.34 per cent, Ultratech Cement by 1.70 per cent, Tata Steel by 1.66 per cent, Nestle by 1.19 per cent in falling shares.

Loss to investors

Even though the index closed on a positive note, there has been a decline in the wealth of the investors. At the close of the market today, the market cap of the companies listed on BSE stood at Rs 277.70 lakh crore, while it was Rs 278.06 lakh crore on Thursday. Investors have suffered a loss of Rs 36,000 crore in today’s trading session.
