SBI Card sent the bill to the customer even after the expiry of the credit card, now he will have to pay a fine of 2 lakhs

Consumer Court Penalty on SBI Card: The number of credit card users in India has increased rapidly. Where credit is proving to be helpful for people, on the other hand, if it is not used carefully, it can also become a cause of trouble.

One such recent case has come to the fore, where the credit card became a cause of trouble for the customer. SBI Card sent the bill to the customer even after the expiry of the card. In such a situation, now the consumer court has imposed a fine of lakhs on the company.

What is the whole matter?

Acting on a complaint against SBI Cards & Payments, the Consumer Court of Delhi has imposed a fine of two lakh rupees. According to the news of PTI, a customer had lodged a complaint against the company as SBI Card had billed the dues to the customer even after the credit card was cancelled.

Along with this, the company had also added late fee penalty in the bill. Giving information on the matter, complainant MJ Anthony said that after April 9, 2016, he had not done any kind of credit card transaction.

Along with this, he did not have any outstanding bill at the time of closing the transaction. After this, he had also given an application to cancel the card to the company, which was also canceled in September 2016. After the cancellation of the card, the card bills started coming on the registered mobile number of the customer. After this, the company added late fees to his bill and till May 18, 2017, the bill became a total of Rs 2,946.

Customer complained in consumer court

After this, Anthony had complained about this in the Consumer Court of Delhi. The customer said in the court that despite paying the bill and closing the card, the company is troubling him by sending the bill. Along with this, SBI Card had also added the customer’s name to the defaulters list of the CIBIL system due to which he was not getting a credit card from any other bank.

The court imposed a fine of Rs 2 lakh on the company

The Consumer Court of Delhi said on this matter that sending bills even after cancellation of the card and adding the customer’s name to the list of defaulters is a serious mistake. In such a situation, action on this matter is very important.

The Consumer Court has ordered a fine of Rs 2 lakh on SBI Cards and Payment Services. The company will have to pay this penalty within two months. If the company fails to do so, then the amount of fine will be Rs 2 to 3 lakhs.
