Know the significance
Sawan Shivaratri is one of the most auspicious festivals for Hindus, which is celebrated like Mahashivratri. This day is very important from religious and spiritual point of view. Shivaratri means holy night dedicated to Lord Shiva. This festival honors Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati and is celebrated on the fourteenth day of the lunar month.

According to the Panchang, twelve Shivratris are celebrated in a year, one of which occurs in the month of Phalgun (also called Mahashivratri) and the other occurs in the month of Sawan (also called Sawan Shivratri).

This is the night of performing spiritual activities and staying awake. The month of Shravan is for worshiping Mahadev and seeking his blessings. Devotees try to please Lord Shiva by performing various spiritual and religious activities such as fasting, spiritual rituals, Rudrabhishek and Havan on Sawan Shivratri.

It is also believed that by worshiping Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, you can receive their immense grace and blessings. It is said that devotees participating in the Kanwar Yatra must offer Ganga water to the Shivlingam on this special day.

Know the Puja Vidhi

1. Fasting: Devotees observe a strict fast on this auspicious occasion, which begins early in the morning and ends early the next day.

2. Offer water: To please Lord Shiva, all his followers must perform Jalabhishek and Rudrabhishek on this auspicious day.

3. Ratri Jagran: During this, people pray to Lord Shiva and engage in several spiritual and religious practices.

4. Mantra Japa: One must chant several mantras associated with Lord Shiva, including the Mahamrityunjaya Mantra and the Panchakshari Mantra.

5. Temple visit: To show their gratitude and seek the blessings of Lord Shiva, devotees must visit a Shiva temple.

6. Meditation: On the night of Shivaratri, fasting people and other devotees practice meditation as it is believed that this night is very powerful to perform these types of activities.
