Industrial production in Feb 2023: The country’s industrial production has seen a boom in the month of February. Due to the better performance of power, mining and manufacturing sectors, the country’s industrial production has grown by 5.6 percent in the month of February this year. According to official data, industrial production as measured on the basis of the Index of Industrial Production (IIP) grew by 1.2 per cent in February 2022. At the same time, industrial production had increased by 5.5 percent in January this year.
NSO released data
According to the National Statistics Office (NSO) data, the manufacturing sector output stood at 5.3 per cent in February this year. A year ago there was a growth of 0.2 percent in it. Mining production remained stable at 4.6 per cent in the month under review. An increase of 8.2 per cent was recorded in electricity production, while it had increased by 4.5 per cent in the same month a year ago.

The production of capital goods grew by 10.5 per cent in February as compared to a growth of 1.3 per cent in the same month a year ago. The output of the durable consumer sector grew by 4 per cent in the month under review, while it declined by 9.7 per cent in February a year ago.
What was the figure a year ago?
The production of non-durable consumer goods grew by 12.1 per cent in February as against a decline of 6.8 per cent in the same month a year ago. The infrastructure/construction goods sector grew by 7.9 per cent as compared to 8.6 per cent growth in the same month a year ago.

According to the data, the production of primary articles increased by 6.8 per cent in February this year as compared to an increase of 4.6 per cent in the same month a year ago. The production of intermediate goods declined by 0.3 per cent in the month under review as against a growth of 4.1 per cent in the same month a year ago.

Industrial production in the first 11 months (April-February) of the last financial year 2022-23 was 5.5 percent, which was 12.5 percent in the same period a year ago.
