A letter has been written in this regard to all the states on behalf of Alok Prem Nagar, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Panchayati Raj. In this, it has been said that in all the gram panchayats, block panchayats and district panchayats of your state, start the facility of payment through UPI.

QR code installed in Panchayat buildings

The names of service providers related to digital payments have also been made available by the government . It has been said that after meeting with them, select according to the rules and instructions. After this, QR codes should be installed in Panchayat buildings. Jan Dhan accounts of villagers should also be linked with UPI, so that they can make digital payments.

While issuing Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to the states, the Ministry of Panchayati Raj has asked them to organize events on Independence Day and announce that digital payments have started in their panchayats.

Digital payments being made by Panchayats to their contractors: Officials

From next year, the provision of digital payments will also be included as a major parameter in the category of good governance in the National Panchayat Awards. A senior ministry official said that digital payments are being made by panchayats to their vendors, contractors etc.,

but revenue collection is still being done in the form of cash. Arrangements are now being made to collect various types of taxes, fees etc. received by the panchayats digitally.

If this system is implemented in all panchayats, then India’s digital payment figure will reach a lot. It can be gauged from this that at present, when the panchayats are not fully connected with digital payments, even then villages and towns have contributed more than fifty percent in the total digital payments of the country.
