Dattatreya Jayanti 2023: The full moon day of Margashirsha month is celebrated as Dattatreya Jayanti. On this day, the birth anniversary of Lord Dattatreya, part of Lord Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva, is celebrated. Dattatreya is a mixed form of Lord Trinity. On Dattatreya Jayanti, the child form of all three gods is worshipped.

Who is Lord Dattatreya?

Lord Dattatreya is the child of Maharishi Atri Muni and his wife Anusuya. When the Trinity tested the devotion of Mata Anusuya and was pleased with her, she was born in the combined form of all three. They have three faces and six hands; cows and dogs always stay with them. The form of both Guru and God is contained within Lord Dattatreya. Lord Dattatreya considered himself 24 Gurus. By worshiping them, one gets the blessings of the Trinity together. According to belief, Lord Dattatreya had given Shrividya-mantra to Parashuramji.
