Cancer surgeon explains the disadvantages of eating late at night, learn how many hours before bedtime you should have dinner.

Due to work commitments or other reasons, it may not be possible to have dinner too early. In such a situation, at least ensure that there is a reasonable interval between dinner and meals. Cancer surgeon Dr. Jayesh Sharma explains this:

In today’s fast-paced lifestyle, there’s no time for eating. You’ll especially notice that dinner times have shifted significantly. Most people are eating late at night, and then immediately going to bed. This is very common in cities, as work commitments or the habit of sleeping late at night make people prefer to have a late dinner.

Now the question is, is this really healthy? Everyone knows that eating too late at night can be harmful. However, due to work or other reasons, eating too early may not be possible. In such a situation, at least ensure that there is a proper interval between dinner and meals. Cancer surgeon and oncologist Dr. Jayesh Sharma has spoken about this. Let’s find out.

Disadvantages of a Late Night Dinner
Dr. Jayesh Sharma explains that going to bed immediately after eating can be very detrimental to your health. Eating a late dinner or a heavy meal negatively impacts both your digestion and hormone levels. It increases insulin and cortisol, while simultaneously increasing your sleep hormone, melatonin. This triggers a very harmful cycle of inflammation.

How long before bedtime should you eat dinner?
Dr. Jayesh, citing a study conducted in Spain, suggests that you should eat dinner approximately 2 to 3 hours before bedtime. The doctor says that the study found that people who maintain a two to three hour gap between dinner and bedtime have a 20 percent lower risk of cancer. You should definitely adopt this habit for overall health.
