Amazon Policy: Many times you must have heard in the news or it must have happened to you that you have ordered some goods from an online site and a similar order has been delivered to you, that is, you have received fake goods. Now, regarding this, the giant e-commerce company Amazon has revealed what it has done to stop this type of fraud.
Amazon reveals in its third annual Brand Protection Report how efforts to protect customers, brands and selling partners from counterfeit goods led to record number of criminals caught and industry partnerships. Apart from this, counterfeit goods were also seized so that if they could not be sold on Amazon, they would join the supply chain by forgery elsewhere. Amazon uses four methods to prevent counterfeiting, which are described below.
Identification of Selling Accounts
Amazon quickly started seller verification and under this, each seller was contacted through video chat. Apart from this, identification methods based on machine learning were adopted. Through this, fraudsters were prevented from creating new Amazon selling accounts. Last year in 2022, these methods prevented creation of new selling accounts more than 8 lakh times.
Continuous expansion in brand protection tools
According to Amazon, it continues to improve its Auto Protection technology, which allows it to partner with brands included in the Brand Registry and get the most out of the data they provide. This has reduced the number of complaints about counterfeit goods by brands. According to Amazon’s report, in the last year 2022, there has been a decrease of more than 35% in the complaints of fraud from the brand included in the brand registry.
Ongoing partnership with brands and legal agencies
Amazon claims its efforts to weed out sellers of counterfeit goods and destroy them are working. Last year, Amazon’s Counterfeit Crimes Unit prosecuted or referred more than 1,300 offenders in the US, UK, EU and China. Amazon continues to partner with brands and legal agencies to combat counterfeiting. Amazon has identified and confiscated over 6 million counterfeit items. Due to this they could not be sold anywhere.
Trying to educate customers
Amazon has also initiated consumer education, among other efforts. Under this, he partnered with the American Chamber of Commerce and American Customs and Border Protection. Amazon has created marketing campaigns that educate customers on how to shop safely and ensure they buy authentic products. Apart from this, through this campaign, they were explained what are the disadvantages and dangers of buying fake goods. The campaign has been viewed by over 70 million customers in the US.
