2000 Rupees Notes: RBI has informed that since the announcement of withdrawal of Rs 2000 note on May 19, 2023, till June 30, 2023, Rs 2.72 lakh crore i.e. 76 percent of Rs 2000 notes have been returned to the banking system. RBI said that now only Rs 2,000 notes worth Rs 84,000 crore are left in circulation.
September 30 Last date for depositing or exchanging notes
RBI told that according to the data received from the banks, from May 19, 2023 to June 30, 2023, Rs 2000 notes worth a total of Rs 2.72 lakh crore have been returned to the banking system. This means that 76 percent of the notes have returned to the banks. Now only notes worth Rs 0.84 lakh crore i.e. Rs 84,000 crore are left back in circulation. September 30, 2023 is the last date to exchange or deposit these notes.

87 percent note deposited in bank account
RBI said that according to the data collected from major banks, 87 percent of the Rs 2000 notes returned from circulation in the banks have been deposited in bank accounts. While only 13 percent of the notes have been exchanged through notes of other denominations.
Deposit or exchange early notes
RBI has requested the common people to deposit or exchange Rs 2,000 notes using the right time of the next three months. RBI said that the last date for depositing or exchanging notes is 30 September 2023. To avoid congestion in the last days, advice has been given to deposit or exchange notes soon.
September 30 is the deadline
On May 19, 2022, the RBI announced the withdrawal of the Rs 2000 currency note. RBI had then said that under the clean note policy, Rs 2000 notes are being withdrawn from circulation. 2000 rupees may be closed in circulation but 2000 rupees note will remain legally valid. 2000 rupee note can be exchanged with currency of other denomination in the branches of banks and in 19 regional offices of RBI.
